Rabies Vaccine for Dogs

A dog getting the rabies shotFor dogs, most veterinarians recommend that the first rabies vaccine be given between three and six months of age and that a booster shot be given one year later.

Many local and state laws require a rabies booster every year after that, while other areas mandate vaccination only every three years.

Most areas require that your dog have a rabies tag on his or her collar in order to provide proof that your dog has been vaccinated.

The rabies shot is given either in a muscle (usually in the thigh) or subcutaneously between the dog’s shoulder blades.

While it is possible to buy rabies vaccine online and administer it to your pets yourself, many countries and states forbid the home administration of the rabies vaccine and require that it be done by a veterinarian.  Before buying the rabies vaccine online, be sure to check your local laws.
