- In 2001, there were 7,437 cases of rabies in animals and one case in humans.
- 40 percent of cases among animals occurred in raccoons.
- There were three cases of rabies in humans in 2002.
- 93 percent of reported cases in 2001 occurred in wild animals.
- Raccoons represented 37.2 percent of all cases, skunks 30.7 percent, bats 17.2 percent, and foxes 5.9 percent. Other wild animals represented 0.7 percent of all cases.
